One 60-day cruise through the Land Down Under was terminated following the tragic passing of an senior woman who was left behind by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The ship left without her and went back after some time after the ship staff realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A major search operation found her body the following day.

Authorities are examining the tragedy, together with police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest announcement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The ship first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.
